 A pledge from City Council candidates for safe sidewalks, ending camping on public spaces, and enforcing laws to stop open illegal drug use. In 2023, 75% of Spokane voters backed Proposition 1, demanding safe sidewalks and public spaces. The proposition was overturned on a technicality by the Washington State Supreme Court.

The New Policy: Real Enforcement + Help

Spokane police shall immediately initiate lawful interventions and
divert individuals into services whenever possible:

1. Open Drug Use

2. Obstructing sidewalks, rights-of-way, and business access points

3. Unauthorized camping and sit-and-lie (lift November, 2018 suspension)
