Dear Spokane Community,

Spokane is facing a homelessness crisis that demands immediate and coordinated action. Following our recent Three for Thursday discussion, Barry Barfield of the Spokane Homeless Coalition has stepped up—organizing 5 AM walksfrom City Hall to the County Commissioners Office to amplify our call for urgency.

This morning, 20 of us walked together—not a large crowd, but a powerful message. We are urging the City, County, and the entire homeless response system to address this crisis with the urgency it requires. This is not just about overdose deaths, though nearly one person per day is lost to overdose. It encompasses the broader human and economic toll— including amputations due to cold exposure, untreated medical conditions, violent assaults, and the devastating economic impact on our community.

This is not sustainable, and Spokane residents know it—it remains the number one priority for citizens.

We’re walking again tomorrow at 5 AM — same route, same message:

To resolve Spokane’s health and safety crisis, treat it as a disaster, and respond as if lives and our City depend on it—because they do

To those who have already shown up: thank you. Your presence matters.

To those who have not yet joined: the time is now.

Walk with us. Show up. Demand action.

I’ll see you there.
